TSG9664C-1-C is a 96x64 FSTN transflective postive LCD display. It is a monochrome LCD display, can show black or white characters only. And it is a COG, the chip is on the glass. This FSTN LCD display has a backlight, which can be black, white or blue color. It depends on the display type that you are using. Transmissive displays can not work without backlight, you can see nothing on the screen without backlight. However, transflective displays can work without backlight, but it would be higher brightness if you add a backlight.
